Painting Nature in Culpeper, Virginia

There is something about the light here.

In Culpeper, Virginia, the mornings arrive slowly. Mist sits in the low fields. The trees hold their colour longer than you expect. The landscape does not announce itself. It reveals itself, quietly, to anyone willing to slow down and look.

This is the landscape that shapes my work. I paint in oil on canvas, guided by the quiet language of nature. Trees, water, and tulips are recurring subjects in my paintings. They are not decorative choices. They are symbols of resilience, renewal, and communication, the things I find most worth paying attention to.

Serenity, solitude, and hope are central to my work. A friend once described my paintings as “visual meditations” and I have never found a better description. I want the person looking at a painting to feel something quiet and good.

Culpeper sits in the heart of Virginia’s Piedmont region, surrounded by farmland, open sky, and the foothills of the Blue Ridge. For an artist whose work is rooted in the natural world, it is an extraordinary place to live and paint.

My original nature paintings are available online and through two Culpeper galleries, Village Frameworks & Gallery and Jewell Tone Music and Arts. I also welcome custom oil painting commissions for collectors who want a specific place or subject captured in paint.
